UNITED BY DESIGN: Mike Han

In his debut Detroit gallery exhibition, United by Design (September 2–30), Mike Han showcases a multidisciplinary creative practice shaped by his Korean heritage, graffiti, and contemporary design, presented during Detroit Month of Design 2023.

The exhibition brings together a series of design collaborations, including 3D-printed tables developed with Haddy, a rug collection with Gardner-White Furniture, and a modular wall art system created in partnership with Leon Speakers. It also features recent collaborations with SEE Eyewear, CultureVerse, and Detroitissimi.

In this exhibition, I’m proud to introduce The House of Han as a sustainable lifestyle brand. I think so much about how in order to create, you must destroy. How can I add value to people’s lives without harming the environment? These challenges posed in my art I seek to address with The House of Han as a product brand, creating sustainably at scale to enrich everyday life.”

United by Design is presented as a survey of collaborations spanning fashion to furniture, bringing together works that have been distributed nationwide and exhibited internationally, including in Italy, alongside a new series of Modern Vandalism paintings created on salvaged blueprints from renowned Detroit architects Albert Kahn and Minoru Yamasaki.
