EMMA KINNISON

PAINTING

Emma Kinnison is a Detroit-based sculptor working with steel, creating contemporary pieces that explore movement, emotion, and organic forms, designed to function as a statement element within interior spaces.

Her new series explores movement, form, and rhythm. Her artistic practice centers around the transformation of a material primarily considered rigid and industrial into something that feels fluid, expressive, and alive.

She shapes each sculpture to allow the curves and movement of the steel to guide its final form. Although the pieces are three-dimensional abstract shapes, each one develops its own unique energy and personality.

An important element of her work is color. Bold, hand-applied hues bring another layer of movement and emotion to the sculptures, allowing the material to take on a completely different presence to create a sense of flow, strength, and transformation.

Her first solo exhibition with PLAYGROUND DETROIT will debut in November 2026. Her artwork is included in Foundations 2026, an online exhibition on Artsy.
