COMM[UNITY] II is the second edition of PLAYGROUND DETROIT’s inaugural group exhibition (2017) recognizing the importance of the Detroit arts community to host a safe, inclusive space and provide a collective opportunity to share the vision and voices of Detroit artists, as well as celebrate the 6-Year Anniversary of gallery opening at 2845 Gratiot Avenue.
The exhibition will be on view through December 2023 (Thursday-Saturday 12-5pm) and by appointment-only in January 2024. We look forward to celebrating with all members of the community and demonstrate our appreciation for the ongoing support of artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts alike.

“COMM[UNITY],” our inaugural group exhibition that opened six years ago featured over 30+ artists to celebrate the grand opening the gallery. Now more than ever, providing space for the first open-call exhibition to bring together diverse artist perspectives and a safe inclusive space seems critically important. The presentation of artwork seeks to unify and demonstrate the talent and dedication of Detroit’s creative community, which is bound not by geography or practice, but by an enduring set of shared values of respect and creativity.
It is an honor to hold space for the Emerging Artist community in Detroit during the last six years. PLAYGROUND DETROIT continues to advocate for artists and hold space for art, community, exchange and connectivity amid industry-wide challenges and on-going local art space and gallery closures.
PLAYGROUND DETROIT is welcome to anyone and everyone. We provide a space for all community members and is accessible across race, gender, class, sexuality and ability. We believe in creating an environment that is inclusive and welcoming, where everyone—guests, artists, customers, staff, and community members—are treated with respect and dignity.
